Louie joined MechTronic in August 2022 as a Fitter Apprentice. Since then, he has been involved in building a range of products including man lids, sight glass kits, Add Tanks and building our flagship electronic metering system, OptiMate. As part of this build, Louie has been involved in the full production process, including wiring the system.

More recently, Louie has been further developing his engineering knowledge and experience and has been visiting tank builders and helping our engineers fix any truck issues that arise. Louie has also accompanied Ben, our Sales Engineer on customer training visits, which helps to widen and further develop his engineering experience.

We asked Louie what he enjoyed most about his role, he said: “I like the variety, each day I am making different products. I have particularly enjoyed building the OptiMate systems as there are lots of different elements to the build and it’s nice to see a complete product at the end. It has also been good to go out to with Ben on customer site visits, seeing how OptiMate, the product I have helped to build, benefits drivers in real life.”

What next for Louie?

Louie said: “I am enjoying my apprenticeship; I attend college one day a week but the practical experience I gain each week helps support my learning. Over the next few months, I will continue to broaden my experience within the business and get real engineering hands-on experience to further develop my skills to support me in my career.”
